Architect and Builder Liaison

Susan Utley solves problems in the construction phase, which saves considerable time and money. She understands the client needs and works with the architect and builder to make it happen. Some changes made during construction that saved previous clients time and money at a later point include:

  • Moving a wall just a couple of inches to accommodate a family heirloom
  • Moving a load bearing pole to extend the kitchen island so that the family could all cook together
  • Adding reinforcing blocks before the dry wall is attached so that grip bars can be easily installed when the senior needs them
  • Opening a door way to 36” so that a wheelchair can move through the doorway
  • Designing the shower stall so that a senior or someone with a broken leg can easily walk in without stepping over the ledge
  • Adding rough plumbing for future needs
  • Making sure the windows are UV coated to protect the furniture and the flooring

Susan also strives to make it easier for the builder by:

  • Working with the client to make selections by the builder’s designated time frames to keep the builder on schedule
  • Providing schematics to show where various paint colors should be applied
  • Providing sketches to illustrate how the tile in the bathrooms and the kitchen backsplash should be applied
  • Coordinating client requests when the appropriate contractor is on site
