Living - Family - Den - Office

As in all rooms you need to design the room based on the expected activities performed in each room. For example, will the living room be used as a family room or will the living room function in a more formal setting say for drinks before and after dinner. If so, then a bar and its accessories need to be blended into the design. Seating needs to accommodate the number of people that are anticipated at any one time with benches used as surge seating. The benches need to be easily moved.

Dining Rooms

Formal or informal living in the dining room needs to be considered and styled accordingly. The anticipated number of guests sets the tone for identifying the table dimensions and number of chairs. 27” is comfortable space for each guest.  Storage of finer dishes, glass ware and silverware also must be taken into consideration. Balanced ambient lighting needs to be addressed

Bedrooms

Bedrooms are a place of comfort and tranquility.  Along with the bed area, comfortable spaces need to be carved out to allow someone to easily slide into a chair for reading or just for a nap.  These spaces become so important and Design Studio focus on the right depth of a chair for curing up ( > then 23”), the right softness (down over a poly fill) and the right fabrics (silk, cotton etc.)  There is also a focus on lighting.  Reading lighting for the bed and sitting areas and ambient lighting for a calming effect.

Kitchens

Many questions need to be addressed when planning a kitchen. For example, multiple cooks in the kitchen require 48” spacing between the cabinets and island to allow for passing.  Are family and guest eating in the kitchen at a table or a kitchen island? Will the children be doing homework at the kitchen bar while dinner is being cooked?  How the family cooks will dictate, storage space, pantry and other utilities needed in the kitchen.

Bathrooms

Usually all bathrooms are “get aways” whether they are the master or just a powder room. So great care must be taken to include luxury accoutrements that allow you or your guests to take a deep breath. Lush towels and a bit of soothing fragrance from a candle add to these senses. Shower and tub combinations or separate areas as well as steam, sauna and Jacuzzi needs must be understood. Are there any special limitations that need to be taken into consideration?
